Fan Work Permissions
Statement from Armaina, Directly:
For the most part I’m pretty amicable to receiving fan works related to my characters and stories without any prior permission/notice. But since it can be a little unclear what other people’s comfort levels are and not everyone has the same threshold of what is acceptable or not, I want to write up this little document to give some direction as to what I am comfortable with as a starting point. This also applies to all fan-works, not just illustrations. Fiction, crafts, music, video, and all kinds of media are welcome.
First and foremost, keeping depictions of my characters, in-character, is incredibly important to me. My characters all mean something, they have their own allegories and symbolism and if you care about me at all as a person that is something I ask you respect. Likewise, I do not want dramatic alterations to my character's physical attributes. Please, no gender swapping, body modification, ethnicity changes or species swapping without my expressed permission.
That being said, here’s a general breakdown of what I’m comfortable with being drawn without my prior knowledge/permission and what would require permission first. Remember that the ‘in character’ caveat apply to this whole list.
Permission Not Required:
- General depictions
- Scenes from their stories
- Combat scenes appropriate to the character’s experience and skill
- Injury that is not fatal for the character (and doesn’t focus on pain/suffering)
- Swearing
- Alcohol/Smoking use
- Goofy/Silly things
- Nudity that is not provocative but also obscures genitals
Explicit Permission Required:
- Character interactions between mine and your own if we have never even talked to one another
- Explicit Nudity
- Overtly romantic depictions
- Sexually suggestive depictions
- Sexually explicit depictions
- Fetish/Kink, regardless if it’s sexual or not
- Hard drug use/misuse
- Difficult/complex topics
- Depictions of pain and suffering
- Getting a commission/request using one of my characters (Even if the subject matter is listed in the first category.)
If there is anything unclear or vague or a subject that is not explicitly listed, please just ask me! I keep all my contacts easy to find for a reason! I’m an extremely sociable person and I love getting DMs/Email!!
Fan Characters
The creation and use of fan characters in any of the settings of Armaina's comics are both permitted and encouraged. All of the species created for her comics/setting are considered 'open species' and anyone is welcome to use them without receiving explicit permission. While most information is public, if there is any information that has not been written down, please contact Armaina directly as she may have answers she has not recorded, yet.
